If you have your own live-build setup, could you give me:
* the full command line with 'lb config'
* the content of the 'config' directory

As you can see in openQA, the Debian live image with MATE is running fine:

From the bug report, it is unclear to me which image you used. Could you provide a URL to the ISO file? The version of 'lb --version' shows that you are running bookworm as your host os.
