I think that's a bug in adduser. chfn rejects that, so adduser ends up with a weird error message. I have adapted the regex in adduser to fix that:

I would be disappointed if Debian stopped allowing international characters in the full name without a good reason.
Agreed. Please suggest a better value for commentre. I have also asked the shadow/passwd maintainer for their input since its their tool that needs to handle the input as well.
