Hi,

I'm one of the volunteers for the installer usability tests run by Tassia
and
her team last year, and I'd like to follow up on some of the issues we
identified on the website.

We'd like the website to give more guidance for newcomers, to help
a user that has never used Debian to be able to find the live image, test
it,
and have some guidance of what to do to have an installed system.

In my experience, I first used the Download button, but one I had the iso
file
in my machine I had no idea of what to do with that file.

It took me a while to find the session to "Try Debian live before
installing",
and once I did so, I got distracted by following the Callamares Installer
link,
which is did not help me further with the installation process.

The different links available for live images are not informative enough,
since
a newbie might not know what Gnome, Xfce, KDE mean.

In summary, here is what I consider would improve new users experience:

1. Make it easy to spot the live image, ideally in the main page. Or maybe
guide
the user to find the image they need. A more experience user would probably
make
their way to find a netinst iso easier than a newbie to find a live image.

2. Add "How to Install" to the main page. This should include the steps to
write
the iso to the USB, maybe change the boot options, etc.

If you agree that more visuals would be helpful, I volunteer to create
them,
since I have experience with graphic design and UX/UI. A good example IMHO
is
the Tails website [1], where they visually describe the needed pieces then a
step-by-step to use their system.

Thanks for considering,

Mariana.
