My team upload that moved to lua5.4 was reverted with the claim that "The vlc script ecosystem expects certain versions of lua and lua5.4 is not one of them."
Please consider that a lot of Linux distros outside the Debian world have moved on to lua5.4, which is the only upstream supported version by the way. So if others can do it, the claim should be substantiated. Would a downgrade to lua5.1 work? That version is still very popular in the archive and is the one that is the closest to 5.2.
