I confirm the issue existing with 4.50, can reproduce it here. If I interpret correctly, the fd that the debconf frontend stalls reading from is connected to the exim daemon. Hm. The Debconf-related stuff did not change besides cosmetics between 4.44-2 and 4.50-3. But I have seen that we do quite unusual stuff, such as restarting the daemon in the .config script, which seems to be rather exotic. I'll consult with the other Exim 4 maintainers and upstream, and would appreciate any debugging help.
