Package: debian-installer
Version: 20230607+deb12u9

Currently when installing the default graphical desktop environment of Debian,
it does a full Gnome installation with extras. This depending on the use case,
of the system where the installation is being performed can cause it to be
pretty bloated. This will in the case of SSD based data storage, be especially
so given the nature of such storage.

To handle this situation I was wondering whether it would be possible, to allow
the user to chose between the current full Gnome with extras, and a basic Gnome
installation. The basic Gnome would include just enough to get started, web
browser, the software centre, Software sources and Gnome Updater. The office
suite, may or may not be needed depending on use case. The Gnome games really
need to be an optional extra, which can be installed later. As if it’s used in
a productivity or business environment having games on the system may be a big
“No No”!
