Actually Xorg without configuration will fall back to this driver but for some reason (kernel limitation?) only 16bpp depth is available at 1024x768 though the original chip should accept 24bpp at that resolution (not sure whether the emulated chip enforces a limit at higher resolutions, but the cirrus drivers probably do).
Also not sure why this is still the default with vagrant/virtio/debian vagrant boxes as that default was changed in qemu over a decade ago. Any of std/qxl/virtio should perform better with less issues.
