Is there any chance this issue could be resolved (the AppStream metadata file
added and installed into /usr/share/metainfo/)?

Another 4 years have passed without any progress and the OTR plugin for Pidgin
is still not user-installable via the GUI because of this.

Sorry about that. Actually, it had been added, then removed because it was buggy:
https://salsa.debian.org/pkg-privacy-team/pidgin-otr/-/commit/109f73cd8db324c53ba32c95172b1caf2feeade1

(and that's why I'm removing the patch tag).

We could ignore the warnings, I guess, though it gets worse now because even the upstream website links to code and bug report are dead.

However the cid-is-not-rdns error would cause the metadata to be ignored by appstream.debian.org anyway. I see the app-id is unchanged in Fedora (which is the source of this metadata).

AFAIU, upstream should provide the metadata, so I'd forward the request upstream if I knew how to contact them when the bug report page has been down for month. Changing the app-id only in Debian would probably be against the principle of appstream metadata.

That said. I would appreciate help on this issue, since I'm not really familiar with Appstream.

Thanks!
