You're right. And now that I've been using it for a while and am more familiar with snapraid, I think /var/lib/snapraid makes the most sense.
snapraid.content is not spool data to be processed later, nor is it cache data that can be safely deleted without data loss; instead, it's variable state information as described by the FHS for /var/lib.
