Hi, I can reproduce it here.
Not nautilus running. * Unchecking and checking /desktop/gnome/background/draw_background via gconf-editor * Trying to change the background using the GNOME dialog -> no change of background, but I see picture_filename changed in the gconf-editor * Running groach (draws on root window) and quitting it, roaches stay there * Moving windows over these leftovers erases them, but still with the old background only.
