Package: mc Version: 3:4.8.31-1~bpo12+1 Followup-For: Bug #725691 Thanks for taking the time to look into this report.
The issue is not yet fully resolved, but mcedit behaves much better now. It is a nuisance now rather than hindering work to be done. GPM is running possibly relevant journal entries: printk: legacy console [tty0] enabled i915 0000:00:02.0: vgaarb: deactivate vga console fbcon: i915drmfb (fb0) is primary device Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 170x48 i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] fb0: i915drmfb frame buffer device i915 0000:00:02.0: vgaarb: deactivate vga console Finished console-setup.service - Set console font and keymap. process tree details: ├─ /bin/login -p -- │ └─ -bash │ └─ mc │ ├─ bash -rcfile .bashrc │ │ └+ mcedit tmp.txt │ └─ cons.saver /dev/tty4 see screenshot for process environment Steps to reproduce (for me): - ceate a tmp.txt containing some lines of text - run mc - navigate to the directory holding tmp.txt - hit F4 on the file - notice how it immediately displays the file content - exit the editor - do NOT yet exit mc - type "mcedit tmp.txt" into to mc command line, usually below the file manager panels - notice how tmp.txt opens for editing but the file content is NOT yet displayed (only a blue surface) - hit any key, say CURSOR-DOWN - notice how the file content is suddenly displayed After that mcedit seems to now behave quite normal as far as I can tell, so the issue is better but not yet fully resolved.
