Relatively recenty (a week or longer, just I didn't find time to report
earlier on) the apt-get dist-upgrade brought in libreoffice 4:24.8.4-1 and the
entire suite.

When I needed to do some printing, it ended up mostly failing. Sometimes it
would print stuff, but only after a long delay, up to over 2 hrs.

In essence, all problems dissolved when I downgraded, with dpkg, since the
older versions were not in apt lists anymore.

And I now have to hold the old packages.

This was what I had to do to get the printing to be done, install these old
packages over the new 4:24.8.4-1 ones::

The dpkg log is attached.

I'd say this is for upstream, but Debian developers will tell.

Regards!
