Dear maintainers, I have an old device which does not support iHD driver and I also met this problem (Hardware acceleration is broken on Wayland).
Cause this problem has not been fixed for several months, I tried to make a nmu, which you can check at: https://mentors.debian.net/package/intel-vaapi-driver/ Thank for the information provided by S.7!
