Package: gdm3 Version: 47.0-3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, probably since gdm3 was upgraded to v47, when trying to log in, the password field often is just greyed out leaving only fingerprint login available. But using fingerprint login isn't desirable as that won't unlock the Gnome keyring, so the password still has to be entered. Usually it helps going back to the user selection and seleting the user again, but sometimes this needs to be done multiple times until the password field allows for input. The only alternative is to wait for fingerprint authentication to time out, which isn't ideal either.
Here's an image showing how the lockscreen looks in this stage (as I'm not certain it's the best behavior to just attach the image to this email): https://imgur.com/a/m95ySm0 Sadly it's difficult to find any logs about this issue. From journalctl I can see this line that may be related: gdm-fingerprint][40550]: gkr-pam: no password is available for use Seting "Enable=true" in /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf under [debug] does show more output in the journal, but it's a lot more, so I don't know what of it would actually be relevant. Other than that, I don't find any logs. /var/log/gdm3 is just empty. If I can help provide any further information, please let me know how. -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (50, 'experimental'), (50, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.12.6-amd64 (SMP w/16 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_WARN Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages gdm3 depends on: ii accountsservice 23.13.9-7 ii adduser 3.137 ii dbus [default-dbus-system-bus] 1.16.0-1 ii dbus-bin 1.16.0-1 ii dbus-daemon 1.16.0-1 ii dconf-cli 0.40.0-4+b3 ii dconf-gsettings-backend 0.40.0-4+b3 ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.87 ii gir1.2-gdm-1.0 47.0-3 ii gnome-classic [x-session-manager] 47.2-1 ii gnome-classic-xsession [x-session-manager] 47.2-1 ii gnome-console [x-terminal-emulator] 47.1-3 ii gnome-session [x-session-manager] 47.0.1-1 ii gnome-session-bin 47.0.1-1 ii gnome-session-common 47.0.1-1 ii gnome-session-xsession [x-session-manager] 47.0.1-1 ii gnome-settings-daemon 47.2-1 ii gnome-shell 47.2-2 ii gnome-terminal [x-terminal-emulator] 3.54.2-2 ii gsettings-desktop-schemas 47.1-1 ii konsole [x-terminal-emulator] 4:24.12.0-1 ii libaccountsservice0 23.13.9-7 ii libaudit1 1:4.0.2-2 ii libc6 2.40-4 ii libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 2.42.12+dfsg-1+b1 ii libgdm1 47.0-3 ii libglib2.0-0t64 2.82.4-1 ii libglib2.0-bin 2.82.4-1 ii libgtk-3-0t64 3.24.43-4 ii libgudev-1.0-0 238-5+b1 ii libjson-glib-1.0-0 1.10.6+ds-1 ii libkeyutils1 1.6.3-4 ii libpam-modules 1.5.3-7+b1 ii libpam-runtime 1.5.3-7 ii libpam-systemd [logind] 257.1-4 ii libpam0g 1.5.3-7+b1 ii librsvg2-common 2.59.1+dfsg-1 ii libselinux1 3.7-3+b1 ii libsystemd0 257.1-4 ii libx11-6 2:1.8.10-2 ii libxau6 1:1.0.11-1 ii libxcb1 1.17.0-2+b1 ii libxdmcp6 1:1.1.5-1 ii mlterm [x-terminal-emulator] 3.9.3-1+b3 ii polkitd 125-2 ii procps 2:4.0.4-6 ii systemd-sysv 257.1-4 ii ucf 3.0046 ii x11-common 1:7.7+23.1 ii x11-xserver-utils 7.7+10+b1 ii xiterm+thai [x-terminal-emulator] 1.10-2+b2 ii xterm [x-terminal-emulator] 396-1 Versions of packages gdm3 recommends: ii at-spi2-core 2.54.0-1 ii desktop-base 13.0.0~pre1 ii gnome-classic [x-session-manager] 47.2-1 ii gnome-classic-xsession [x-session-manager] 47.2-1 ii gnome-session [x-session-manager] 47.0.1-1 ii gnome-session-xsession [x-session-manager] 47.0.1-1 ii x11-xkb-utils 7.7+9 ii xserver-xephyr 2:21.1.15-2 ii xserver-xorg 1:7.7+23.1 ii zenity 4.0.3-1 Versions of packages gdm3 suggests: ii libpam-fprintd 1.94.4-1 ii libpam-gnome-keyring 46.2-1 pn libpam-pkcs11 <none> pn libpam-sss <none> ii orca 47.2-1 -- debconf information: * shared/default-x-display-manager: gdm3 gdm3/daemon_name: /usr/sbin/gdm3
