Hi Ross,
faxaddmodem is the program that configure a telephone line used by
hylafax server. Once a line is configured you may use faxmodem to tell
the system to use it as outgoing line. faxgetty is the program used for
receiving faxes.

In a send only environment you have to configure your modem lines using
faxaddmodem (only once) and run faxmodem (at every hylafax startup)

If your system should also receive faxes then it should run faxgetty on
every line used for incoming calls (this will also use the line for
outgoing calls.)

The debian startup script will check for the variable USE_FAXGETTY
in /etc/default/hylafax and do:
1. when FAX_GETTY=yes
run faxgetty for every configured device (in/out system)
2. when FAX_GETTY=no
run faxmodem for every configured device (out system)
3. when FAX_GETTY=init
      do nothing

I think that this description may be added to README.Debian. Do you
agree this would be a solution for this bug report? Do I miss something
from your report?

Bye,
Giuseppe
