Package: yaird
Version: 0.0.12-14
Severity: normal
Hi there, I have a client netbooting from a server with nfs root.
The system works correctly with nfsstart yaird but the nfsmount timeouts
under some circumstances.
If I boot the client right after "/etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server
restart" on the server then:
manual copy from client boot screen:
trynfs: starting nfsmount -o rsize=8192,wsize=8192
192.168.1.179:/media/clients/pvrzabala/root /mnt
nfs: server 192.168.1.179 not responding, timed out
nfs: server 192.168.1.179 not responding, timed out
mount: input/output error
sort read: 0 < 28
switching root ...
/usr/lib/yaird/exec/run_init: current directory on the same filesystem
as the root : Success
kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init
daemon.log in the server with RPCMOUNTDOPTS="--debug all" in
/etc/default/nfs-kernel-server:
Jun 12 02:51:01 topocasa in.tftpd[13181]: tftp: client does not accept
options
Jun 12 02:51:05 topocasa mountd[13179]:
MNT3(/media/clients/pvrzabala/root) called
Jun 12 02:51:05 topocasa mountd[13179]: authenticated mount request
from pvrzabala.zabala17.local:984 for /media/clients/pvrzabala/root
(/media)
If I reboot the client shortly after the error, the mount is correct
and the system works flawlesly.
If I wait some time (not measured) between the error and the reboot I
get the error again.
If I reboot the client after a successfull boot the mount is correct
too.
If I boot the client some time (not measured) after the last successful
boot, without restarting the nfs server, I get the error.
The last error is the common behavior in my system, it is a mythtv
client booting from the server, I boot it everyday when i got home from
work and the first boot always gives the error, then I shut down the
client and boot it again and works, so if the boot is 12 hours away
from last boot i get the error, although i think the period is much
shorter, maybe half an hour or some minutes, i will measure it if it is
important.
I think the error is related with Bug #19196: "Mysterious NFS mount
timeouts..." in Ubuntu
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/breezy/+source/initramfs-
tools/+bug/19196
they resolved it changing from nfsmount to mount.
Thank you for your work and your attention
