I tried to fix this by adapting https://github.com/cloudpipe/cloudpickle/pull/534, but it looks like it may depend on https://github.com/cloudpipe/cloudpickle/pull/524 which I'm not going to touch. It would be better for the maintainer to do a new upstream version upload at this point.
