Package: zram-tools
Version: 0.3.5-1~exp1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

Since installing latest kernel 6.12 (I use sid), the only algos available are
lzo-rle and lzo, as can be verified by
root@siddie:~# cat /sys/block/zram0/comp_algorithm
[lzo-rle] lzo

However, in the default settings /etc/default/zramswap , the compression
algorithm is set as ALGO=lz4 , which makes the zramswap.service to fail with
the log as follows:

Dec 08 02:21:06 siddie.localdomain systemd[1]: Starting zramswap.service -
Linux zramswap setup...
Dec 08 02:21:06 siddie.localdomain zramswap[4543]: /usr/sbin/zramswap: line 53:
echo: write error: Invalid argument
Dec 08 02:21:06 siddie.localdomain root[4550]: Error: setting compression algo
to lz4
Dec 08 02:21:06 siddie.localdomain zramswap[4550]: <13>Dec 8 02:21:06 root:
Error: setting compression algo to lz4
Dec 08 02:21:06 siddie.localdomain systemd[1]: zramswap.service: Main process
exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Dec 08 02:21:06 siddie.localdomain systemd[1]: zramswap.service: Failed with
result 'exit-code'.
Dec 08 02:21:06 siddie.localdomain systemd[1]: Failed to start zramswap.service
- Linux zramswap setup.

The problem can be temporarily fixed two ways:
- Manually change ALGO=lz4 in /etc/default/zramswap to one of the supported
algorithms, ALGO=lzo (or ALGO=lzo-rle )
or
- Use an earlier kernel (less than 6.12)

I am reporting this because the defaults fail with most recent kernel; and I am
not sure if it is just for this kernel, or this is how it is supposed to be in
the future.

Thanks,
manul
