Package: thunderbird Version: 1:128.4.0esr-1~deb12u1 Regression coinciding with the Thunderbird security update in Debian `stable` a few days ago.
Thunderbird Chat no longer shows IRC channels in the left pane of the Chat window if the server is the ZNC bouncer, and the channel is already joined in ZNC. This means that there is no indication in the Thunderbird UI that the channel is joined, and no This happens whether the channel was already joined in ZNC when Thunderbird Chat connected to it, *and* when attempting to use the Thunderbird **Join Chat** button to join the channel when ZNC is already joined. However, a channel *does* appear when the **Join Chat** button is used, if and only if that channel wasn't already joined by the ZNC. Without looking at the Thunderbird code, I would guess that there was a Thunderbird change that's causing it to now only create the channel tab when it sees a channel join that Thunderbird session had initiated. If true, that doesn't seem to be compatible with ZNC telling Thunderbird about the channels that are already joined. A poor workaround is to -- each time Thunderbird connects to the IRC server, and the channel isn't shown -- use a separate IRC client (or the ZNC administrator UI) to connect to that ZNC, then part the channel through that separate client, then use Thunderbird's **Join Chat** button to join the channel. (It's also possible that nothing in Thunderbird changed, but that some subtlety of the IRC server changed, and that protocol difference is passed through ZNC. However, WeeChat still works fine with that same ZNC.)
