Hi,

I ran both version Lintian v2.116.3 and Lintian v2.119.0+18commits+gitf56fd23b4+dirty. The issue exists in both versions. I didn't mean to open the bug against version 2.116.3 but it applies to that version as well.

The package is any created with https://github.com/kornelski/cargo-deb. It is an application to create debian packages from rust sources. It adds a sha256sums file to any package that it creates. My understanding is that this is not wrong to do.

Dear Maintainer,

When I run lintian (the most recent version from git) on a package that
has a sha256sums file I get the error 'unknown-control-file [sha256sums]', but I should't get an error per https://wiki.debian.org/Sha256sumsInPackages.

Please, make this warning go away.

Hello,

It is hard to help you with this issue without knowing against what package and what version of said package you ran Lintian.

I also see you've opened the bug against Lintian 2.116.3, whereas the current version in unstable is 1.120.0. Is that a mistake? You said you've run the latest version from git, but I would encourage you to run the latest one that has been released on the Debian archive.

Cheers,
