Sorry for the late-to-the-party message - I'd like to strongly support Goswin's request. The (short) package description is essential information, all the other stuff doesn't make much sense if you can't even remotely say what the package does. Adding the description as mouse-over titles to DDPO made it much more fun to use for me, so I'd love to have it also in the PTS. (Frankly, when I want to know the status of a source package, I'm using developer.php?package= instead of the PTS right now just because of that feature.)
