Ok.

BTW, on the screen-devel mailing list are also some mail threads
regarding bugs within 5.0.0 (see
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/screen-devel/2024-09/threads.html),
so the actual v5.0.0 release might not be ready for trixie yet,
though until then we might hopefully have according patches/fixes.

I don't find anything in the release notes either, on quick glance
in screen's git repository I also don't see anything related to this
"serial support removal", so let's hope for the best. :)

I agree that option #1 is to be preferred, otherwise option #2 as
fallback (if feasible at all as you stated), I'd avoid option #3
overall.
