Please fix zim not to invade the home folder with its data files. A good solution would be placing them under the ~/.zim folder.
Zim uses "~/.config/zim" and "~/.local/share/zim" to store configuration files. This scheme follows the freedesktop.org basedir specification.
The data can be located anywhere, you specify the directory to store data when creating a new repository. If you want the data to be stored in "~/.zim/" you can specify that directory already. So I see no reason to change any code for this.
