Also, something that would be VERY useful for me to add tests, would be 
a relatively simple watch file (the one you quoted is a tad complex...) 
that could be ran with version=2 and version=3, where:

* version=2 doesn't dversionmangle
* version=3 does indeed dversionmangle
I tried a few things, with no avail...
