Yeah, I think the github-backup package can go away. It suffers from sufficient bit-rot so as to be basically unusable.
And there are other tools in the space. There is a python-based alternative that actually works and is actively maintained, https://github.com/clockfort/GitHub-Backup and an alternative python-based one with a forest of recently-pushed-to forks, https://github.com/abusesa/github-backup and a ruby-based one https://github.com/ddollar/github-backup which looks a bit old.
