Hi John and Tony,

the package splay showed up as candidate for the Bug of the Day[3].
Since I know Tony as an active maintainer and sponsor of packages I do
not file our "Intend to Salvage" template uncommented via BTS.

Moreover I've read in bug #88691 that mp3blaster is a "heavily modified
version of splay" and some patch for this bug was suggested. While
mp3blaster is maintained by "Debian QA group" it has a higher popcon
than splay. So I would like to discuss with you whether it makes sense
to drop splay in favour of mp3blaster, we move the latter to Debian
Multimedia team and you might serve as Uploader there. All four open
bugs of mp3blaster are tagged patch and I would volunteer to migrate
this package to the Salsa team space and do some team upload.

Just let me know whether according to your better insight into splay it
makes sense to keep it in Debian and to move it to the team repository.
I would also like to know how you would have an ITS bug with the text
below would have perceived. This initiative is relatively new and we
experienced that some maintainer felt offended which we would really
like to avoid.

Kind regards
Andreas ... and now there is the ITS template.

Hi

I’m interested in salvaging your package splay, in accordance with the
Package Salvaging procedure outlined in the Developers Reference[1].
Your package meets the criteria for this process, and I would love to
assist in preserving and maintaining it. As the Salvage process
suggests, here is a list of the criteria that apply, in my opinion:

  - Bugs filed against the package do not have answers from the
    maintainer.
a bug entry asking for it, it has not been packaged.
  - There are QA issues with the package.

I believe your package would be a great addition to the Debian
Multimedia team, and created the Salsa repository here[2]. If you choose
not to accept the ITS, I’d be more than happy to help you move it to
another location, such as debian/, or wherever you prefer. My goal is to
make it as easy as possible for you to join the team. I’d also be
delighted to assist in adding you as a team member if you could share
your Salsa login.

Your package was highlighted in the Bug of the Day[3] initiative, which
aims to introduce newcomers to manageable tasks and guide them through
the workflow to solve them. The focus of this initiative is on migrating
packages to Salsa, as it's a great way to familiarize newcomers with a
consistent Git-based workflow.

Kind regards
    Andreas.
