I don't know what happened, but seems that one of the latest Etch upgrades has solved the problem. Or maybe deleting my Gnome or Galeon configuration did the trick. Now the spinner and all the missing icons are back in their places and the error messages have disappeared. I'm sorry for not being able to say more on the matter.
