It includes both a Modbus client and server with support for TCP and RTU communication modes. This library allows for reading and writing of coils and registers, and supports signed and unsigned register values. It is designed to be very small and lightweight, making it suitable for applications requiring minimal overhead. It can communicate with devices adhering to the Modbus protocol over serial and network interfaces. This library is a dependancy of Home Assistant, the Python smart home platform. I plan to maintain it as part of the Home Assistant team.
