If you instruct surf to render "duckduckgo.com", you cannot enter anything into the search bar.
This problem happens only when run in an installation which is a VMware guest. VMware version is current (17.5.0), running in a Windows 10 host. All VMware drivers and utilities inside the Linux VM have been installed from the offical Debian repo.
