Can you try again with 1.6.13-4 and patching /etc/schroot/setup.d/10mount and replace the line 306 which reads mknod -m700 "$CHROOT_PATH/dev/console" c 5 1 by touch "$CHROOT_PATH/dev/console" You can undo the change you did to fstab, it's unrelated.
