If the reason is a mistyped password then reportbug should automatically ask for the password again on the next try. Reportbug tries to recognize this based on the error raised by smtplib. The code is here: https://sources.debian.org/src/reportbug/13.0.1/reportbug/submit.py/#L486 If reportbug does not ask for the password again, then the error raised by smtplib is not an SMTPAuthenticationError. It seems like in your example the problem was an SMTPHeloError. Can you please check if the real reason in your case was something else than a wrong password?
