Package: mpv Version: 0.38.0-1 Severity: normal X-Debbugs-Cc: invernom...@paranoici.org
Hello and thanks for maintaining this great package in Debian! One of the very useful features of mpv is that it is able to use yt-dlp behind the scenes, in order to play YouTube videos (and videos from other platforms, as well). Unfortunately, since last Tuesday or Wednesday (23 or 24 July 2024), mpv has stopped being able to seek within YouTube videos. I mean that, if I issue a command such as: $ mpv https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=$VIDEO or: $ mpv --volume=84 --fullscreen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=$VIDEO I can watch the whole video from the beginning to the end, as usual. But, if I attempt to skip to a given chapter (with the » or « buttons) or to a given time instant (by clicking on the progress bar) within the video, the video freezes (still image and no audio) and mpv fails to fill the cache with the appropriate segment of the video, despite downloading a bunch of data (I see downstream traffic on the network interface). This began to happen all of a sudden (in the middle of the week, as I said), without any upgrade of mpv or yt-dlp on my Debian testing box. I do not see any other relevant package upgrade in the days when this began to happen. I may be wrong, but I suspect that something has changed in YouTube, rather than in yt-dlp or mpv. However, even if the cause may be in YouTube, this should be fixed (or worked around) in mpv (or maybe in yt-dlp, please re-assign the bug report, if this is the case). Please fix this bug, and/or forward my bug report upstream, as appropriate. Thanks for your time!
