I am having this issue. How do I uninstall the package?

Try to install the new version, and then remove it.

Alternatively, you can start nscd before trying to remove it.

I can't upgrade either. And nscd is running! The script fails when it tries to stop it.

When I run /etc/init.d/nscd start or stop, manually as root the script works fine, but it fails when I try to update or remove it.

Then you can try to remove the call to /etc/init.d/nscd in /var/lib/dpkg/info/nscd.prerm
