No, unfortunately noone bothered to elaborate on the cause of that other bug, myself included, and apparently the CI logs are gone by now. I'm surprised if both build and autopkgtests succeed without that patch, but would be happy to not need to maintain it: I'll try simply drop it, if nothing else to get logs for better understanding the underlying issue.
