This is definitely not a cdrecord bug! What you did was to call cdrecord with insufficient privileges. Later you did ignore both: the error message from cdrecord and the man page that tells you that you need to run cdrecord with root privileges.
BTW: You are not using cdrecord but a bastardized version from Debian that has many bugs that have been introduced by Debian.
