lack of response for 16 years is most often a sign that the issue has
been reported to the wrong address. And indeed, it is nearly impossible
for a software distribution such as Debian to coordinate the
implementation of a feature that requires patches in multiple upstream
sources. It is always best to discuss such issues with the enthusiasts
that actually care about these very specific features, such as the
community in the slimdevices forums.

I don't know who that collective "you" is, but as you stated yourself,
this bug report has seen no activity for the past 16 years and I cannot
remember any other mail addressing this specific issue as well.

Now that the issue has been reported to FLAC upstream and a fix is
provided, it is up to the FLAC upstream maintainers to review the patch
and either accept it or request changes. Then, it will eventually end
up in the next upstream release and we will package that for Debian.

I am not going to add a patch to the Debian package that has not yet
been approved by FLAC upstream.

Absolutely no, no chance! Most impotantly, because this is not a
security fix. Quite the contrary, this patch adds a lot of code that
hasn't been approved by upstream yet and applying it from the PR would
be much more of a new security risk than anything else.

Well, since the fix hasn't even made it into FLAC upstream yet, I don't
see how this is a Debian specific issue in any way. Any other
distribution will face the same issue.

Sorry I couldn't help, but you will need a bit more patience. :/

Cheers,

 - Fabian
