i prepared cryptsetup 1.0.3-2 packages which have a new default vol_id
check, which checks for any known filesystem per default and fails only
if no one is found. you can give a particular fs type with the new
checkargs option in /etc/crypttab. if the swap option is used, the check
will only succeed if the target device contains a swap partion.

the ext2, xfs and swap check scripts are depreciated now, but i kept
them in the package for now, as they don't do any harm. the swap check
doesn't use /usr/bin/strings any more.

please give the package a try and report whether this is what you
wanted.

the decrypt_key functions will be added soon.
