Dear Maintainer, I was surfing the web as a regular user and learnt the bug I reported on 2021 in https://github.com/notofonts/arabic/issues/27 now is now happening on a new installations of Debian and Ubuntu. First I suspected perhaps there is a regression on the upstream but then learnt this has happened because Debian has updated to 2020 version of the fonts which have defective versions of the fonts. Characters that are broken on the version are, * Unicode Character 'EXTENDED ARABIC-INDIC DIGIT FOUR' (U+06F4) * Unicode Character 'EXTENDED ARABIC-INDIC DIGIT SEVEN' (U+06F7) Which are highly used characters for Persian and as can be seen on the upstream link they are fixed after the report for a number of Noto Naskh Arabic related fonts after the report. I wish somehow you can update the fonts or backport the fix as this is one high use character for Persian and I even made Persian Wikipedia to avoid use of the font on the titles just because of the issue and I guess there are some other users who are seeing the issue and are clueless about the reason. I've checked that the defected font is in fonts-noto-core but apparently there are variants of the Noto Naskh Arabic on other packages also which need the fix also. Thanks. -- Package-specific info: Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Architecture Description +++-==================-================-============-===================================================== ii fontconfig 2.15.0-1.1 amd64 generic font configuration library - support binaries ii libfreetype6:amd64 2.13.2+dfsg-1+b4 amd64 FreeType 2 font engine, shared library files ii libfreetype6:i386 2.13.2+dfsg-1+b4 i386 FreeType 2 font engine, shared library files ii libxft2:amd64 2.3.6-1+b1 amd64 FreeType-based font drawing library for X -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.7.12-amd64 (SMP w/20 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=C.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages fonts-noto-core depends on: ii fonts-noto-mono 20201225-2 fonts-noto-core recommends no packages. fonts-noto-core suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
