Dear Luca, I am aware of the fix you've provided, but like Stefaan had said, the package is supposed to work on a default Bookworm install -- it's how it works before the systemd switch, and indeed how it works in testing (Debian 13).
Version 1.0.2-3 ended up in testing, but DID NOT find its way into stable. We should either seek to move that into stable, or seek to move the current working version in testing (1.1.0-4) -- with a more comprehensive systemd patch[0], into stable.
