Good, looks like you got the hang of it. I will post my suggestion that involves having a config similar to https://salsa.debian.org/debian/entr/-/blob/debian/latest/debian/gbp.conf but upstream as 'main' and some other tweaks for easier long-term maintainability, along with explanation why my suggestion is what it is.
Are you ok hosting the package in salsa.debian.org/debian namespace? Or at least mirror it there?
