As of lxd 5.0.2+git20231211.1364ae4-4 the default URL for the images: remote is: https://images.linuxcontainers.org however that endpoint does not accept the LXD user-agent anymore [1]. The following URL should be used instead: https://images.lxd.canonical.com I am aware of #1058592, but hopefully this can fall into the "small tweaks" category you still plan to do for the package.
