Unfortunately, my patch got mangled during application to the point where it no longer achieves the desired effect. The QMAKE_COMMAND assignment was moved to dh, which causes it to become -O--=QMAKE_COMMAND=... on the relevant dh_auto_* invocations and is being ignored. I'd appreciate if you could correctly apply the patch. Also consider performing a test build (sbuild --host=... or pbuilder --host-arch=...) to see whether your update retains the intended effects.
