Well, this is a ticking bomb for more bugs -- just thinking "hey, we'll just
assume the input is below X bytes" is going to give us problems in the
future. If nothing else, this could stay Debian-specific; that would be at
the maintainer's discretion, though.

There's a bug in the patch I sent; it should be ">= size()", not "> size".
That still doesn't help, though, so I'm doing a valgrind run now with
debugging doxygen. I guess we'll see...
