I tried creating a patch for the skin support on the Ubuntu bugtracker[1]. It seems be fine with only one of the skins, the other doesn't work, and it's likely to be a skin issue (I tried gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file(path_to_broken_skin) and it didn't work. The other one loads fine. Nevertheless, IMVHO the skin support is a silly complication of things and has rightly been removed from the debian package :)
