Package: mingetty Version: 1.06-3 Severity: important
My system runs "unicode_start" in the boot scripts, and has LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 set. All during the boot process, Unicode mode works fine (extended characters like the GB Pound Sterling symbol can be typed while the bootup process is running, and they are displayed correctly). As soon as "mingetty" starts the consoles though, Unicode mode gets switched off. The GBP symbol key continues to send its UTF-8 code, but the console does not interpret them correctly. This prints as two characters, and other UTF-8 output (e.g. from man or text files) is not displayed correctly either. This is fixed by running "unicode_start" again on the terminal in question. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.28-leo Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages mingetty depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
