Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** I am useing a DecTalk USB with Speakup * What led up to the situation? When you boot or initialize, you hear at a `rather lo volume, "command error in command * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? While especially scrolling or arrowing, all-of-a-sudden the volume will drop from where I like it at 86 to around 70. The rate will drop from 229 to 180, and pitch will drop from 111 to maybe 80. * What was the outcome of this action? At this point, you must go in the Speakup controll pannel and ajust those 3 settings up-and-down to restore the values you had set. * What outcome did you expect instead? While I `certainly expect to enjoy a consistant listening experience, there are times when these values drop only 30seconds later again. Looks as if the file "dectlk.c" has these settings, but even after editing or running speakupconf my settings will not hold. In addition, as dectlk.c is a driver, there seems no easy way of compiling. Also there are times the DecTalk will completely stop-and-I can either turn of-and-on or run the following alias rd: aliased to sudo /sbin/modprobe -r speakup_dectlk; sudo /usr/sbin/modprobe speakup_dectlk; sudo cp /usr/local/bin/characters /sys/accessibility/speakup/i18n/; sudo echo '10' | sudo tee /sys/accessibility/speakup/dectlk/flush_time The volume, rate, and pitch changes have been happening an entire time I've been in Linux with Speakup, since 2003 In reality I've considered trying Fenrir, but their DecTalk support may not be ready -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.5.0-5-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE not set Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash I am in TCSH Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled speakup-tools depends on no packages. speakup-tools recommends no packages.
