What command are you using to upgrade? An ordinary `apt upgrade` should
not be proposing to remove packages.
If you use `apt full-upgrade` or `apt dist-upgrade`, then you will need
to be prepared to cancel the upgrade if you see that it is going to remove
important packages.
What was logged in /var/log/apt/history.log and /var/log/apt/term.log
during this upgrade?
