Package: tar-doc Version: 1.35-1 Severity: important X-Debbugs-Cc: in.cognit...@arcor.de
Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? Usage of package tar-doc to browse the tar info manual. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? >From "emacs -Q" (Emacs 29), execute 'C-h R tar RET'. * What was the outcome of this action? I get an error message Searching subfile tar.info-3... info-insert-file-contents: Can’t find tar.info-3 or any compressed version of it and the *info* buffer is not properly rendered. Also, I cannot access the index of the tar manual. * What outcome did you expect instead? No error messages when browing the tar manual. * More information: The package contents lists as: [~]$ dpkg -L tar-doc /. /usr /usr/share /usr/share/doc /usr/share/doc/tar-doc /usr/share/doc/tar-doc/README.Debian /usr/share/doc/tar-doc/changelog.Debian.gz /usr/share/doc/tar-doc/copyright /usr/share/info /usr/share/info/tar.info-1.gz /usr/share/info/tar.info-2.gz /usr/share/info/tar.info.gz /usr/share/vrms /usr/share/vrms/reasons /usr/share/vrms/reasons/tar-doc The indirect section of /usr/share/info/tar.info.gz looks like this: <separator> Indirect: tar.info-1: 1178 tar.info-2: 305486 tar.info-3: 623104 <separator> Probably the packaging instructions need to be updated to also include tar.info-3.gz in the package? * Off-Topic: It seems that the only other Debian bug on package tar-doc: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=459079 got fixed already upstream. -- System Information: Debian Release: trixie/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 6.5.0-5-amd64 (SMP w/16 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_US:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages tar-doc depends on: ii dpkg 1.22.2 ii install-info 7.1-2 tar-doc recommends no packages. tar-doc suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
