Package: libasound2 Version: 1.0.11-6 Followup-For: Bug #312577 I can confirm that the bug does indeed occur with my Realtek AC'97 soundcard (intel8x0 driver).
The error message at boot is probably caused by the "alsactl" command in /etc/init.d/alsa-utils, it consists of two lines repeated multiple times, the first one is: ALSA lib control.c:817:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0 the second line is a complaint about being unable to access the mixer device, which I did not manage to write down before working around the problem. All subsequent attempts to use ALSA fail with messages mostly complaining about not being able to access the pcm device. Indeed the /dev/dsp0 device is not available, even if the OSS emulation layer still works. I adopted the same workaround that was reported before, by downgrading to version 1.0.11-3 and pinpointing it in my apt preferences. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (750, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16 Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.utf8) Versions of packages libasound2 depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6-9 GNU C Library: Shared libraries libasound2 recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
