it didn't give any hints which packages it was looking at. i can't search for it now, having had a long run of upgrades and not using screen(1).
I'll add the version string to the output, so next time it may be a bit easier to track down.

This, we cannot fix as the string is coming from something like: $ dpkg --compare-versions "1 2" gt 1.4
